The Trail Tamers are hosting a trail project at Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center in the David Mountains of West Texas during the week of March 1st through March 6th. We will be working with the new site manager, Scott Whitener on this trip. Scott is a previous employee of Texas Parks and wildlife and has many years of trail design and maintenance.
We will be working with local volunteers as a group. On day 1, we will conduct an in depth trail assessment of the outside loop, the upper loop, and Claytons Overlook to identify and document the overall condition of this trail system. This will be a teaching event. As we study areas in need of repair, we will have in depth talks about trail design, hydrology and especially the unique soil and rocky terrain of this unique sky island
Scott has already identified three main areas that we will focus on after the assessment haas been completed. There is a short trail reroute needed at Outside Loop / Modesta Canyon (100 feet), major erosion on the Upper Loop, and we need to redefine the tread around Claytons Overlook

Registration: Registration is open to members of the Central Texas Trail Tamers.
The participation fee of $75 will cover the cost of meals. We will be camping at the Nature Center. The CDRI has bathrooms, showers and a washer and dryer available.
