The Trail Tamers are partnering with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to maintain trails in the Davis Mountains State Park during the week of October 25-31.

This is your chance to visit the scenic Davis Mountains during Fall. It is an extensive mountain range that provides the setting for one of the most majestic of the state parks and one of the earliest Civilian Conservation Corps projects in Texas.

The crew will work on the historic Old CCC trail that was built by Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s.

Registration:  To participate in the project, you will need to be an active member of the Trail Tamers and pay a participating fee of $125 to cover food and related trip expenses.

Food and Accommodations: Meals will be provided.  The crew will camp in the state park; however, the crew will need to share three RV sites, and 3 adjacent tent campsites.

Fitness Level Description:  This project is suitable for individuals in good physical condition. Volunteers must be able to hike 4-6 miles a day and be physically able to perform routine trail maintenance such as trimming brush, constructing creek crossings, moving rocks and repairing trail signs.

Equipment and Clothing: Participants are expected to furnish their own gear, including tent, sleeping bag, day pack, water bottles, personal mess kit, and some a container to use for packing their lunch. Work clothes should be practical and include long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and well-broken-in hiking boots. Most importantly, participants should bring good work gloves and safety glasses.

Mark Schneider is the crew leader for this project.

The Central Texas Trail Tamers is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
